Kindly offered accomodation by both Ametyst and Avaritia, Clare, Eloise
and I made our way North from Leeds on Friday evening, arriving at 10ish
at Ametyst's lovely flat in Leith to discover the party already in full
swing, with Avaritia and Chris from Sheffeld already there.
Next morning it was off to the City Centre to meet the band and do some expoloring, via the swish new 24 hour bus service from Leith arranged for the new Scotish Parliament. Meanwhile our mate Kenny joined us via the train from Glasgow - doesn't it look smart!
Edinburgh is a fascinating place to visit at any time, but a beautiful late April morning is particularly lovely, as we made our way through the Georgian streets, across the many bridges, and through the closes and wynds of the medieval Old Town.
We reched the venye, on the south side of the city centre, at pretty much the same time the band did. Who are these lost souls wandering darkly through our mighty capital city?
This was one truly impressive venue. The changing room (above) was beautiful, and while the acoustics of the actual hall may not have been perfect, it looked truly georgous.
And so on with the soundcheck!
Eventually, with the soundcheck completed to everyone's satisfaction (and including some very fine complete tracks - thanks guys!), it was off to a pub within sight of the famous Greyfriar's Bobby, where the company was fantastic, and the food truly stupendous!
As a special treat, Ametyst had arranged for us all to tour "Mary King's Close", one of the forgotten subterranean streets which lie beneath the current buildings of the Royal Mile. Unfortunately photography is forbidden in the depths, but it was a truly fascinating tour, exploring rooms, passageways, even an entire street, now hidden and forgotten beneath the buildings above.
After the tour, it was back across Princes Street Gardens to Edinburgh's Eerie pub, where some strange shenaniggins took place...
And then things got very strange, with someone (addled memory has saved the name of the culprit from history's grasp) coming up with the idea that as I'd spent most of the previous six years photographing them, that the band and entourage should all take sequential pictures of me. Somehow the lens survived this visual onslaught, and I'm honour bound to display the results below. Those of a nervous dispossision may wish to look away now...
And so, with an evening of revelry and music still to come, it was time for the company to part and us all to head off to our varied lodgings and prepare for the festivities. Follow this link to find out what happened next!
