Having got permission from the band to shoot the first half of the set from actually on-stage, I took up a position in the wings, and captured a few familiar faces in the crowd.
And then the band begins to play!
By now the venue was packed to capacity,
Inkubus Sukkubus playing an absolutely
perfect set to a huge and wildly enthusiastic
audience from all across the Gothic world.
After a while I slipped out from the stage wings and made my way round to the front and into the audience. As I'd expected, attempting to get to the middle of the vast crowd was completely impossible, so I took some shots from off to one side, before eventually managing to squeeze into a central location right against the back wall of the venue.
The crowd were loving the band's set, roaring aproval after every track. By now the sun was slipping behind the trees of the park, and the earlier punishing heat was replaced by a gentle warmth, providing near perfect conditions for both band and fans.
Needless to say, we all shared another truly magical performance, the elemental energy rising from the very earth beneath our feet as the music, faultless and perfect with no noise or distortion, poured from the speakers and filled the arena.
It was a truly fantastic gig!
And all too soon it was over! The band had played a full set, including a completely unplanned encore demanded by the crowd, and the time had just flown past. The live set now contains tracks from almost all of the albums, so there was plenty to satisfy fans old and new.
Oh yes, that was indeed a gig and a half!
