You could feel the anticipation building up as Lemora's gear was carefuly packed away
and Inkubus Sukkubus's mics, guitars, and backline was set up. The crowd was now tightly
packed at the front of the stage, and the air fairly crackled with energy. It would appear that the ventilation of the venue has been improved since 2002, though, as it remained blessedly cool at the front!

The lights dimmed, the bell tolled, the band took to the stage - and totally took command of the venue! The opening "Wytches 2002" was delivered in fine style, flat out, no holds barred, and with a well up-for-it crowd already fully warmed up by the excellent support bands, we went wild! They carried straight on from Wytches into "Smile Of Torment", hardly pausing for breath, while the crush at the front of the stage grew to major-act proportions and the audience totally lost themselves in the music.
Inkubus Sukkubus always deliver a good performance, but this was something special, there was a power, a drive in the playing, and it was totally obvious they were just having so much good old-fashioned fun up there on the stage, it was impossible not to join in.

From Torment, straight on we went into "The Rape Of Maude Bowen", with the band on absolutely top form. The ventilation and cooling arrangements at the Underworld appear to be massively improved on the year before, though the tempreture was slowly rising, it didn't reach the
audience-roasting levels of the 2002 gig!

A roar of approval greeted I Am The One, and as you can see from the surrounding images,
an absolutely fantastic time was being had by both band and audience. It was at about this point that some of us realised we really were part of something special, even by the standards of a band that prides themselves on being close to their fanbase. They always rock, but tonight they rocked like few acts I've seen before. This was Inkubus Sukkubus at their absolute best, storming through the set with absolute confidence, in a tangible wave of pure joy. This is how live music is supposed to be...

Take My Hunger lead us into the Vampyre theme, with the stage lights glowing crimson and the music carrying us all off into the realms of blood

The theme continued with Vampyres, you could feel the undead stirring in the weird backing music...
Then it was an even wilder trip into the psychadelic relams of Faerie, while a few at the front of the audience got to sample the band's favourite brew, the legendary Jaegermeister, courtesy of a bottle Candia passed round. The eagle-eyed may have noticed that Tony is wearing a customised Jaegermeister t-shirt, as were several of the band's old friends who'd come along!
Song To Pan, for me, was the high-point of the entire gig. Normally, Tony sings the
superb invocation of the Horned God at the end through one microphone, while Candia adds her backing vocals from her own mic, but this time, as the guitar solo ended, Candia carried her classic mic over to Tony and the two of them sang into opposite sides of it, Candia's arm round Tony's shoulders. The result looked amazing and sounded absolutely magical.
With Leveller, the main set ended, and the band retired backstage for a well-earned rest! They didn't get to rest for long though, as the audience yelled for more, and so after a few minutes back they came for the final possible track from the set list, the rarely played Corn King.
And so, at last, it ended. Thanks to the way the band had absolutely blasted through the set, the gig actually finished at 10:25, so plenty of time for us all to make a civilised exit instead of the usual cattle-herding from the Underworld staff. As the band had mentioned, there was something of a party planned at The Devonshire back up on Kentish Town Road, and so that was where many of us headed, pausing for a few pics on the way...
