Inkubus Sukkubus headlining The Camden Underworld, June 2003.
|
During the Summer of 2003, Inkubus Sukkubus played at both Beltaine and Midsummer pagan festival celebrations. In between these, on Saturday the 14th of June, they also headlined a four band event at the famous Camden Underworld in London, with a truly electrifying performance that will surely become a legend among their many fans. The Underworld has always been a special venue, one of those places where you can sense the atmosphere even before anyone hits the stage, and indeed the band had played there many times before, always delivering a top-notch performance. This time, though, was something else. There really was magic in the air that night, magic and power which all the bands on the bill tapped into. Soultakers, though not really my bottle of beer, delivered a solid and faultless set. The Scary Bitches? Wow! The Ghost Of Lemora tapped the energy so effictively I became an instant fan on this very first hearing, which doesn't happen often. And then Inkubus Sukkubus turned in the kind of steam-driven piledriver of a set that leaves you feeling you've not just heard the music, you've lived it, every note, every phrase, a memory you'll treasure for the rest of your life, one of those special nights you can never predict, yet will always remember. It was a privilige just to be there. On the pages that follow I've tried to do justice to one of the best gigs I've ever been to. I hope some of the magic shines through my clumsy words. One thing I do know: It will be a very, very long time before anyone, anywhere, tops that. |

You'll still be able to read the pages at a lower resolution, but there will be horizontal scrolling involved. Sorry, but I just couldn't do justice to this gig at a lower resolution. |
