Once upon a time, a gig at The Underworld would have been followed with an afterparty in 'The Dev', Camden's infamous Goth pub. However, a year or so back, that place was taken over by new owners, with the previous tennants thrown out of both work and home with just a week's notice. I swore I'd never willingly drink there again, and it was with profound and heartfelt joy I discovered that I'm not the only one to think that way. So led by Andy and Katrina of Resurection Records, we all trooped past The Dev, on up Kentish Town Road, and found ourselves in a wonderful traditional London pub called Quinns, open into the small hours of the morning, where we all settled in for a very pleasant get-together.
We made it back to Gloucester, via a stop at Oxford Services, about six am on Sunday morning, and after a quick nightcap of hot chocolate and Jagermeister, we all feel into a deep, dreamless sleep. Emerging again as the sun tracked west that afternoon, Maisey and I finally said farewell to Tony and Candia as dusk gathered, and drove through the twilight up into the Cotswold hills and overland to Chipping Norton and The Rollright Stones, arriving just as full darkness fell.
We paused a while at the stones, I doing a late Samhain working, and then travelled north, by old roads and motorways to Leicester, and the M1 home. Stopping at Leicester Forest services, we set up the club laptop and music drive, powered off a 12v inverter, and with the audio output coupled to the van stereo's aux input, Maisey DJed all the way up the M1 to Leeds. Compilation discs are one thing, but a live DJ on-board is definetly what every form of Goth transport really needs!
And we made it back to Black Sheep with two hours to spare!
